wednesday market kick-off + Market bunch begins

Our mid-week Market is back for the Main Season! Every Wednesday from April 3rd through November 20th, our Wednesday Market is open 3-6pm (3-5pm in November). Our Wednesday Market is a great after-school and after-work stop, with your favorite farmers and some Wednesday-only vendors too.

Every Wednesday Market we offer free kids activities through our Market Bunch program, with activities related to sustainability, local agriculture, arts & crafts, healthy eating, and more.


Main season hours opening day + 45th birthday party

Celebrate the start of our Saturday Main Season hours (7am - 12pm), which run through the end of October! We are thrilled to kick off our Main Season with a birthday party to celebrate 45 seasons. Founded in 1979, the Carrboro Farmers’ Market is “Locally Grown, Nationally Known” and one of the finest producers-only farmers markets in the state. This event will feature a 45th birthday celebration that includes tie-dye of special limited edition merch, a Mini-Museum with the Market’s history, festivities around the Market area, and the debut of this year’s t-shirts. kids seedling day

Saturday, ApriL 20th, 2024

Kick off the spring season with Kids Seedling Day! Kids can get excited to start their own gardens with a free tomato seedling donated by CFM farmers. Kids can plant their seedlings to take home, decorate a label, and then write a thank-you card to the farmer that donated it. Kids Seedling Day also features a raffle, live music, and much more. STRAWBERRY JAMBOREE

Saturday, May 4th, 2024

The Carrboro Farmers’ Market celebrates all things strawberry with Strawberry Jamboree! Market-goers can pick up strawberry recipes, get information about local you-pick strawberry farms, enjoy samples of strawberry dishes around the market, enter a raffle, enjoy live music, and much more. Visit our many strawberry growers and stock up your freezer and pantry for the year. Many of our prepared foods vendors at the Market also offer strawberry specials.

 
 

June in Bloom

The Carrboro Farmers’ Market’s June in Bloom celebrates the beauty and bounty of spring flowers in bloom! June in Bloom features make + take art, unique photo opportunities, a raffle, special coloring book prizes for market-goers, samples of flower-inspired dishes around the market area, live music, and much more.

 
 

TOMATO DAY

Saturday, July 13th, 2024

Our biggest signature event of the year is Tomato Day! CFM farmers grow over 50 varieties of tomatoes - like Sun Gold, Cherokee Purple, Brandywine, Big Beef, Black Krim, and much more. The Market will be celebrating tomato season with samples of freshly-sliced tomato samples in the gazebo, live music, samples of lots of different tomato dishes around the market area (including some local guest chefs), a raffle with over 25 prizes from local Carrboro businesses, “ask a tomato farmer,” and much more. Don’t forget to pick up limited-edition merch, like Tomato Day t-shirts and posters.

In 2020, we made a special booklet all about tomatoes called “Tomato Daze: A Sungold-Sized Collection of Stories, Recipes, and Art in Honor of the Tomato Days of Summer,” which includes art, trivia, memories, essays, and recipes all about tomatoes from our vendors as well as our customers. national Farmers Market Week

August 4th - 10th, 2024

Join us in celebrating farmers markets with National Farmers Market Week! The Carrboro Farmers’ Market joins other farmers markets across the country in celebrating the vital role that farmers markets play in our food system - they preserve farmland, stimulate local economies, increase access to nutritious food, support healthy communities, promote sustainability, and more. On our market days during this week shoppers can enjoy our “Mini Museum” of market history in the gazebo, with banners highlighting the market’s history and timeline. Our Saturday celebrations will include a raffle to win a basket full of goodies from market vendors, live music, samples of in-season products (including fruit grown by CFM farmers and a recipe featuring seasonal products), giveaways of all kinds, a live broadcast from Carrboro radio station WCOM, and more.

Carrboro Cookout

Saturday, august 31st, 2024 (Labor Day Weekend)

On Labor Day Weekend the Carrboro Farmers Market celebrates Carrboro Cookout - a showcase of local meat from local farmers. Market-goers can enjoy samples of meat products to inspire their Labor Day Weekend grilling - things like chicken wings, garlic brats, Italian sausage, and more, all from market farmers. Our farmers raise and sell a diverse range of local NC meats, including chicken, duck, pork, beef, lamb, and bison. Shoppers will be able to pick up a list of all of our meat farmers with the products they offer.

 
 

vendor halloween costume contest

Saturday, october 26th, 2024

Join us in celebrating the Halloween season with our annual Vendor Halloween Costume Contest. Our vendors, staff, volunteers, and collaborators will all be in costume - we invite you and your family to dress up as well! Stop by the Information Tent to purchase $1 tickets to vote for your favorite vendor costume, and then cast your votes at the jack-o-lanterns at vendor stalls around the market. All proceeds go to our Market Bunch kids programming.

The last Saturday in October is also our last Saturday of Main Season Hours!


Root Fest

Saturday, November 2nd, 2024

Join us in celebrating our humble root vegetables in honor of the start of our winter market season. The first Saturday of the market’s winter hours (9am-noon) is the perfect time to celebrate root vegetables perfect for all of your upcoming Thanksgiving and holiday dishes. Shoppers will be able to enjoy vendor specials that feature root vegetables, an educational display about sweet potatoes (North Carolina’s state vegetable!), samples of recipes that feature root vegetables to inspire your shopping, a raffle with root trivia, and much more.
