From old favorites like Sungolds, Cherokee Purples, Brandywines, and Big Beefs, to lesser known varieties like Black Krim, Orange Blossom, and Tomimaru Mucho, the Carrboro Market farmers grow them all. The Carrboro Farmers’ Market celebrates the incredible tomato season on Saturday, July 11th with their annual Tomato Day festival.  Starting at 8:30am on Tomato Day, shoppers can try dozens of varieties of freshly sliced tomatoes in the Market gazebo.  There will be additional samples around Market at several farmers’ stands, and Chef Brendan Cox of Oakleaf will make a guest appearance to serve samples of his favorite tomato dish. Customers can also pick up tomato recipes and enjoy live bluegrass and Latin-inspired music by Mario + Omar.  Tomatoes are always a kid favorite, and there will be tomato themed activities for the young tomato lovers!

The town wide Tomato Day Raffle is also back!  Over 20 local restaurants and businesses have donated over 35 prizes to the raffle.  Customers will get free raffle tickets with their purchases at participating local businesses from July 6th to July 10th.  Raffle tickets are turned in at Market during Tomato Day, and shoppers get extra tickets for every purchase at Market that day.  Participating businesses include The Arts Center, Auto Logic, Beer Study, Bread & Butter, Buns, Carrburritos, Elaine’s on Franklin, Fleet Feet, Hickory Tavern, Market Street Coffee, Moshi Moshi, NC Crafts Gallery, Nourish Inside & Out, Open Eye Cafe, The Spotted Dog, Townsend, Bertram & Company, Venable, Vespertine, Vital Living Massage, and the UPS Store.

It takes more than just one day to celebrate the beloved tomato! In addition to Tomato Day, there will be a mini tomato tasting at Market on Wednesday, July 8th, and there will be a town wide Summer Harvest Sale all weekend. Several local businesses will be hosting activities, events, and specials the same weekend as Tomato Day!
