The land which the Oakleys garden was first settled in 1672 with a land grant from England. Pam’s grandmother, Ida Lunsford, was the first in the family to sell at the Carrboro Farmers’ Market after Marjorie, Ida’s daughter, began helping in the initial organization of the market 35 years ago. At that point, the market was conceived as an outlet for small farmers to sell surplus produce. Since then, the market has grown considerably and now provides a more significant portion of income for many farmers.
